Grossglockner National Park Hohe Tauern for Schools

Validity: School Year 2024/2025

The Großglockner is Austria’s highest mountain. At a height of 3,798m, its peak stands out prominently in the landscape. If you don’t want to go so high, you can enjoy the wonderful nature along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. This connects the two federal states of Carinthia and Salzburg and offers visitors a unique panorama, untouched nature with rare plants and beautiful waterfalls.

Program:

Day 1:

  • Welcome at the Mautturm Winklern and visit to the exhibition “Crystal Treasure,” showcasing geological treasures of the Hohe Tauern
  • Arrival in the quarters and lunch
  • Audience with the king and his throne at the House of Ibex, including an exciting tour and a fairytale film
  • National park quiz with great prices
  • Herb hunting on the “Natura Mystica” trail, leading through the legendary “Kachelmoor”End the day on the “Fire Island” with a BBQ and bread on a stick by the campfire

Day 2:

  • On the hunt for “Tauern Gold,” we hike to the gold mining village where we’ll try our luck at gold panning with shovel and pan
  • Lunch at Alter Pocher / Schöneck
  • Drive up the Großglockner High Alpine Road to the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe, where we visit the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps and Austria’s highest mountain. On a short loop trail, we’ll pass by marmots and ibex to reach the Swarovski observatory
  • Visit to the “Experience Ice” exhibition followed by a movie
  • On the Path of Legends, we visit the pilgrimage church of St. Vincent, where we hear the legend of the Holy Blood and the Blessed Briccius
  • Dinner at the accommodation

Day 3:

  • Short hike to the “Jungfernsprung,” one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Mölltal, along with the legend of the “young woman”
  • Climbing in the rope garden: From skill training to lofty heights – here, courage, team spirit, and agility are required
  • The proper handling of dogs: We meet “XENA,” a trained search dog, and her handler
  • Lunch at Gasthof Sonnblick, followed by the journey home

Youth Hostel Heiligenblut:

The Youth Hostel Heiligenblut with 94 beds welcomes you in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park at the foot of Großglockner. Bus parking, two large lounges with sun balconies, satellite TV and free WiFi are available to our guests.

The participating teachers receive a flat rate per day + overnight stay + eventual travel expenses (upon receipt). The form provided in the management must be used for the settlement. The submission is made by official channels. The accompanying person pays € 130.00 for meals and overnight stays.
