From May 18th to 20th, 2023, a country meeting of youth hostel organizations from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland took place in Velden Cap Wörth. The picturesque Youth and Family Hostel Cap Wörth provided the ideal setting for this special gathering, which served as a platform for constructive exchange and strengthening collaboration among the three countries.
The meeting brought together high-ranking representatives from the German Youth Hostel Association (DJH), Swiss Youth Hostels and the Austrian Youth Hostel Association. A diverse program addressed various topics of mutual interest to further develop and strengthen the youth hostel landscape in the three countries.
One focal point was the exchange of current booking situations in youth hostels. Participants shared their experiences and best practices to enhance the booking experience for guests. Additionally, the importance of membership and the values of the associations were discussed to establish a common foundation for future collaboration.
A milestone of the meeting was the proposed establishment of a “DACH” group, enabling closer cooperation among youth hostel organizations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This new platform will foster knowledge exchange and the development of joint projects to advance the youth hostel landscape in the DACH region.
Another important theme was the digitalization of the guest journey. Participants deliberated on the latest trends and technologies to provide guests with a modern and seamless experience from booking to departure. The implementation of digital solutions to enhance efficiency and improve customer service took center stage in the discussions.
In addition to the aforementioned topics, a professional exchange of expertise between the countries was encouraged. This exchange allows youth hostel organizations to learn from one another, share best practices, and further develop their staff. By exchanging professionals, collaboration is strengthened, enriching the overall youth hostel landscape.
The country meeting of youth hostel organizations from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland was a resounding success, laying the foundation for closer cooperation.
